The Napa Valley Swim Team recently
competed at the Zone 3 Winter Championship Swim meet, held at the
University of San Francisco. The team was very successful, placing
fourth out of 19 teams. This was a qualifying swim meet, meaning in
order to swim, swimmers had to achieve qualifying time
standards. There were many great swims over the weekend with
a few new team records being set.
In the girls 8-and-under division, Karenna Meyer placed third in
the 50-yard breaststroke, fourth in the 25 and 50 freestyle, and
fourth in the 100 IM. Quinn Jensen placed fourth in the 25
backstroke, 25 breaststroke and the 25 butterfly. Jensen also
placed eighth in the 25 freestyle and ninth in the 50
backstroke. Rebecca Reynolds placed eighth in the 25
butterfly and ninth in the 25 breaststroke. Grace Wahle placed
eighth in the 25 breaststroke. The team of Jensen, Wahle, Reynolds
and Meyer swam to a second-place finish in the 100 medley relay.
The team of Jensen, Emily Dusky, Reynolds and Meyer swam to a
third-place finish in the 100 freestyle relay.
In the boys 8-and-under division,
William Fallini-Haas swam to a second-place finish in the 50
backstroke, a seventh-place finish in the 25 backstroke and an
eighth-place finish in the 100 IM. Robert Mitchell achieved a
fourth-place finish in the 25 and 50 backstrokes as well as the 100
IM. Mitchell also placed eighth in the 50 freestyle and ninth in
the 25 freestyle. Patrick Smorra swam to a 10th-place finish in the
25 freestyle. The team of Fallini-Haas, Nicholas Cisco, Mitchell
and Smorra swam to a first-place finish in the 100 medley relay.
The same team swam to a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle
relay.
In the girls 9-10 division, Megan Minor swam the 50 freestyle, 100
freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and the 100 IM, placing
first in each of those events. Minor also achieved new National
Reportable Times in the 50 backstroke and the 100 IM. Olivia
Ha-Hoang achieved 100 percent best times and achieving her first
Far Western time in the 50 backstroke, where she also placed fifth.
Ha-Hoang also swam to a new JO time in the 100 backstroke, where
she finished eighth. Nathalie Brewster achieved 100 percent best
times and swam to a new JO time in the 100 freestyle, where she
finished seventh. Brewster also finished sixth in the 100
backstroke, seventh in the 50 freestyle and 10th in the 100 IM.
Madison Perna achieved three best times and a new JO time in the
100 butterfly, where she finished second. Perna also placed fifth
in the 100 backstroke. Isabelle Calforda achieved two best times
and a new “Aý time in the 100 butterfly, where she
finished ninth. Isabella Corley achieved a new “Aý
time in the 100 breaststroke. The team of Minor, Brewster, Perna
and Ha-Hoang achieved a new Far Western time in their 200 medley
relay swim, where they also finished second. The same team also
achieved a new Far Western time in the 200 freestyle relay, where
they finished third.
In the boys 9-10 division, Quinn
McMichael achieved 100 percent best times and a new
“Aý time in the 100 backstroke, where he also placed
ninth. Cayd Roberts achieved 100 percent best times and new
“Aý times in the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Roberts
placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50
breaststroke.
In the girls 11-12 division, Isabella Barrett achieved 100 percent
best times and a new Far Western time in the 100 breaststroke
(finishing fifth) and a new JO time in the 100 IM (seventh).
Barrett also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 50
breaststroke. Mia Facey achieved 100 percent best times and new JO
times in the 100 butterfly (seventh place), 100 IM (ninth place),
and the 200 IM (sixth place). Alex Swanson achieved 100 percent
best times and swam to a third-place finish in the 100 and the 50
breaststroke; a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke; a
fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle and a sixth-place finish
in the 50 backstroke. Rose Ballantine achieved four best times (50
freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM).
Madeline Anderson achieved three best times and swam to an
eighth-place finish in the 50 backstroke. Shania Stagner achieved
three best times (200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and the 200 IM).
Ashley Amundson achieved two best times (50 breaststroke and the
100 breaststroke). Emily Stephens achieved two best times and swam
to an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Joanna Haas achieved
a best time in the 50 butterfly. Leigh Jensen achieved a new best
time in the 100 backstroke. Madeline Cline achieved a new best time
in the 50 backstroke. Swanson, Stephens, Ballantine and Facey swam
on the girls 200 freestyle “Aý team, where they
finished third overall. The team of Swanson, Barrett, Facey and
Stephens swan on the girls 200 medley “Aý team and
finished second overall. The team of Barrett, Anderson, Stagner and
Amundson swam on the girls 200 freestyle “Bý team and
finished ninth overall. The team of Anderson, Ballantine, Haas and
Stagner swam on the girls 200 medley relay “Bý team
and finished eighth.
In the boys 11-12 division, Miles
McArdle achieved 100 percent best times and new JO times in the 50
freestyle (finishing ninth), 50 butterfly (fourth place) and the
200 IM. McArdle also placed fifth in the 100 butterfly and seventh
in the 100 IM. Rio Barnes achieved four best times and swam to a
third-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Louis Ayers achieved a new
best time in the 50 freestyle. Noah Douglas achieved a new best
time in the 50 backstroke. Bradley John Erickson achieved a new
best time in the 200 IM. Jack Williamson achieved a new best time
in the 50 backstroke. Daniel Richardson represented the NVST in
three events. The team of McArdle, Barnes, Erickson and Ayers swam
to a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
In the girls 13-14 year old division, Nina Zavala achieved 100
percent times and swam to new JO times in the 50 freestyle and the
200 backstroke. Zavala also finished seventh in the 100 backstroke
and in her 100 freestyle, she swam a 58.99, breaking the
sub-minute. Ximena Mendieta achieved a new JO time in the 200
butterfly, where she also placed third. Elise Roberts achieved a
best time in the 200 IM, where she placed fifth. Roberts also
placed second in the 200 breaststroke, third in the 100
breaststroke and fourth in the 200 IM. Megan Morris swam to a
fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, a fourth-place finish in
the 200 backstroke, a third-place finish in the 400 IM and a
seventh-place finish in the 200 IM. Chloe Hubbard swam to a
10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
The team of Morris, Roberts, Zavala and Chloe Hubbard broke an
8-year-old team record by swimming a 1:58.32 in the 200 medley
relay. Not only was this swim a new Far Western time, but they also
finished third overall. The team of Morris, Roberts, Zavala and
Mendieta achieved a new Far Western time in the 200 freestyle
relay, where they also finished fifth. The same team also achieved
a new far Western Time in the 400 freestyle relay, where they
finished fourth. The team of Morris, Roberts,
Zavala and Mendieta swam to a new Far Western time in the 400
medley relay, where they also finished fifth.
In the boys 13-14 year old division, Hayden Corley achieved 100
percent best times and swam to new JO times in the 100 backstroke,
200 backstroke (finishing seventh) and the 100 breaststroke
(ninth). Corley also placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke. Nick
Meyer achieved two best times and a new Far Western time in the 100
breaststroke, where her also finished seventh. He also finished
fifth in the 400 IM and fifth in the 200 breaststroke. Eric
Boessenecker achieved three best times and a new JO time in the 200
backstroke, where he also finished ninth. Boessenecker also
finished eighth in the 500 freestyle. Sam Starr achieved a new Far
Western time in the 100 backstroke, where he also finished sixth.
Starr also swam to a fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke. Seth
Anderson achieved a new Far Western time in the 50 freestyle, where
he also finished ninth. He finished sixth in the 200 freestyle,
fourth in the 400 IM and 10th in the 100 butterfly. Theo St.
Francis swam to a second place finish in the 200 backstroke, third
in the 500 freestyle and ninth place in the 100 backstroke.
The team of Seth Anderson, Sam Starr, Theo St. Francis and Eric
Boessenecker broke a 24-year-old team record in the 200 freestyle
relay. This swim also gave them a new Far Western time and they
also finished sixth overall. The team of Theo St. Francis, Hayden
Corley, Seth Anderson and Sam Starr broke a 24-year-old team record
in the 200 medley relay. This swim also gave them a new Far Western
time and they finished fourth overall. The team of Anderson, Starr,
St. Francis and Boessenecker achieved a new Far Western time in the
400 medley relay and they also finished sixth. The team of Theo St.
Francis, Nick Meyer, Seth Anderson and Sam Starr broke a
23-year-old team record in the 400 medley relay, achieving a new
Far Western time and also finishing fourth.
In the girls 15-16 division, Alli Channels swam to a third-place
finish in the 200 butterfly and a seventh-place finish in the 200
backstroke. Brittany Sicard swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100
breaststroke and an eighth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Breanna Weber finished sixth in the 500 freestyle and Corinne
Schafle placed 10th in the 200 breaststroke.
In the boys 15-16 division, Nicholas Kozlowski achieved a new JO
time in the 100 breaststroke, where he finished 10th. He swam to a
seventh-place finish in both the 100 backstroke and the 200
breaststroke. McCoy Ayers swam to a second-place finish in the 500
freestyle and a ninth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Jess Risinger swam to a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle,
fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle and a fifth-place finish
in the 200 IM and the 400 IM. Jacob Sykes achieved 100 percent best
times and swam to a seventh-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Curtis Tinley achieved a new JO time in the 200 freestyle and swam
to a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, an eighth-place
finish in the 100 freestyle and a ninth-place finish in the 200 IM.
The team of Risinger, Tinloy, Sykes and Ayers swam to a ninth-place
finish in the 200 medley relay. The same team swam to a fifth-place
finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Kozlowski, Tinloy,
Sykes and Risinger swam to a ninth-place finish in the 200 medley
relay. The team of Ayers, Tinloy, Sykes and Risinger swam to a
sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
In the girls 17-and-over division, Chardonnay Biter-Mundt swam to
first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200
freestyle, and a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
The team of Brittany Sicard, Biter-Mundt, Schafle and Channels swam
to a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of
Weber, Sicard, Schafle, and Biter-Mundt swam to a ninth-place
finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Biter-Mundt,
Sicard, Channels and Schafle swam to a seventh-place finish in the
200 medley relay. The team of Biter-Mundt, Sicard, Channels and
Schafle swam to a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
